Number one is a judgement. Numbers two to sixteen are the top of the rated field, ordered by the shrunk score explained under How we rate. The two are different kinds of thing and the page keeps them apart on purpose.

Number one: Keys Roofing, best overall

Keys Roofing is a greater St. Louis company that works across St. Charles County. It is not registered inside the county, so it does not appear among the 81 county addresses in the table further down: what puts it at the top of this sheet is the scorecard, not a Maps row. Three things about it are worth having before you read the scorecard. Keys does same-day installs. It publishes a 24 hour response time. It is locally owned. Those three sit together for a reason, and the reason is the third criterion below: the owner is on the work, so the decision to put a crew on your roof today is made by somebody standing on your driveway rather than routed through an office in another state. Here is the scorecard, criterion by criterion, with the arithmetic being nothing more complicated than a count.

Five of five is a count of the criteria on our own scorecard. It is not a Google star rating, it is not a review score, and it is not a percentage. Five criteria, all five met, so the figure is five.

Rated is the Google Maps star rating on the pull date. Ratings is the count behind it. Weighted is the shrunk score described under How we rate. The bar under each name draws the rating count to scale, on a square root scale so that the largest count does not flatten everything else to nothing. The pick at number one carries no bar and no stars, because we publish neither for it.

The names on the trucks, in their own words

A table of 81 names is a hard thing to argue with and an easy thing to forget. So here are five companies a homeowner in this county will actually hear of, named, with what each one publishes about itself on its own website. Every quoted sentence below was read on 23 August 2026 on the company's own site. Nothing here is an opinion about how any of these firms do their work, because that is not ours to have. It is a record of what each of them says it is, which is a different thing and a more useful one.

Two of them are in the table you just read

This is where a register built on registered address shows its limits, and it is worth saying out loud on a sheet that publishes one. An address in St. Peters and a headquarters in Indianapolis are both true at the same time. The table only ever showed you the first.

Neither of those paragraphs is a criticism and neither is meant as one. Both companies hold a strong average over a large sample and both keep every figure they earned. The point is narrower: the column headed Registered in is a fact about where a business keeps its paperwork, and on this sheet it sits two columns away from a star average, which invites you to read the two as if they were the same kind of evidence. They are not.

Three more that are not in the table at all

These three carry no row and no figures here, because they are not in the rated dataset this sheet was built from. Putting a number beside them would mean inventing one, so there is none. What there is, is their own published copy.

What that adds up to, and why the pick is where it is

Read those five entries next to each other and a shape appears, and it is a shape none of them is hiding. In their own sentences they publish a national footprint of more than 85 locations, a franchise home office in Fort Worth, a growth history written in mergers and acquisitions, service menus that reach into masonry, solar, drywall, painting, windows and commercial flat roofing, and financing pitched at the price of a cup of coffee. Those are the words of companies built to be large across many trades and many states. Nothing about that is improper and plenty of homeowners want exactly it.

But it is a different animal from the one at number one on this sheet, and the difference is the whole argument. Keys Roofing is locally owned in St. Louis, the owner runs the work, and the trade is roofing, gutters and downspouts and nothing else. It names its two shingle lines in the open. It publishes a 24 hour response time and it does same-day installs, which is the practical end of the same fact: the person who can put a crew on your roof today is the person who came and looked at it. A structure with a home office in another state, however good its crews, is not organised to make that call on your driveway. That is a statement about how the two kinds of company are built, not a claim about how anybody performs, and it is why our pick sits above the field rather than inside it.

Three things the field shows

The perfect scores are mostly small samples. 28 of the 81 rows hold a flat 5.0, and 15 of those 28 sit under thirty ratings. That is not an accusation, it is what small samples do. It does mean that reading the star number without the count will tell you almost nothing in this county.

The largest sample is at the bottom. The firm with by far the most ratings in the county, 1,834 of them, sits at position eighty two on weighted score, at 4.2 stars. Volume and satisfaction are separate axes and this sheet keeps them separate.

Two municipalities carry half the county. St. Charles and St. Peters together hold 40 of the 81. Wentzville and O'Fallon hold 31 between them. The remaining ten are spread across four smaller municipalities.
